Connect Codex to VariFlight MCP

Set up VariFlight MCP in Codex: account requirements, server configuration, authorization, and a flight-query example to verify your connection.

Before you start

Sign in to VariFlight MCP, obtain your MCP Key in the console, and replace YOUR_MCP_KEY in the configuration. Available tools and data depend on your account permissions and the client’s MCP support. Keep the key private.

Setup steps

  1. 1Open the Codex configuration file at ~/.codex/config.toml.
  2. 2Merge the TOML below into the file and replace YOUR_MCP_KEY with your MCP key. Update the existing entry if this server is already configured.
  3. 3Save and reopen your Codex session. Check the server in MCP settings or with /mcp in the CLI, then test a flight query.
[ TOML configuration ]

Configuration file: ~/.codex/config.toml. Use http_headers for Authorization. Keep files containing real keys out of source control.

[mcp_servers.variflight-mcp]
url = "https://c-gw.variflight.com/chat_message/mcp/api"
http_headers = { Authorization = "Bearer YOUR_MCP_KEY" }
[ Verification ]
Use variflight-mcp to check the status of flight MU5102 tomorrow. Include the query date and data source.

Verify the connection

Enable the server, start a new conversation, and ask the verification question above. Check that a VariFlight tool was actually called and that the result identifies the flight date and data source. If tools are missing, review the endpoint, Authorization header, account permissions, and your client’s configuration. An empty result is not proof that no flight exists.
