Key observations from the sample

China Southern leads sample volume; Air China has the highest August-versus-January daily-average growth.

Southern, Eastern, and Air China account for 79.2% of sample flights. Most rebounded in summer after a mid-period dip; Spring was steadier in April–June. Leading percentage growth does not mean adding the most flights.

Methodology and limitations

Airline codes are counted separately, without consolidating subsidiaries. The period is Jan 1–Aug 31, 2026, using actual calendar days. Growth statements name their baseline and distinguish year-over-year from within-period change.

Metric definitions and formulas

Airline sample

Passenger flights of CA/MU/CZ/HU/9C/HO, combining the API's in/out categories. This is not consolidated airline-group scope and cannot establish national market shares.

Share of sample flights

An airline's operated flights / total operated flights of the six-airline sample.

act / sampleTotalAct

Monthly daily-average index

Monthly operated volume / days in month / the same airline's January daily average × 100. August-versus-January change is neither year-over-year nor seasonally adjusted growth.
