Methodology and limitations
China uses code CH, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Destinations are six foreign markets. Analysis covers two-way passenger flights by year and month; shares refer only to these six markets.
- Counts represent flights, not passengers, seats, ASK, or RPK.
- Historical months use board.title for actual periods; the mid-month key date is only an API index.
- Cancellations follow the API definition, not cancellations within six hours of departure. Do not derive an official punctuality rate.
- Dates label month or year starts. Annual summaries cover full calendar years; 2025 covers 2025-01-01 to 2025-12-31.
Metric definitions and formulas
Statistical scope
Two-way passenger flights between China (CH, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) and Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the US, and the UK. Markets are mutually exclusive and additive, but do not cover all Chinese international markets.
2019 baseline index
Operated volume / matching full-year or monthly 2019 volume × 100. A value of 100 equals baseline.
act / baseline * 100Shares and volume changes
Shares use the six selected markets' total operated volume. Share changes are in percentage points. Absolute change is 2025 minus 2019 volume.
netChange = act - baselineYear over year
Full-year 2025 operated volume versus full-year 2024, calculated from totals.
act / lastYear - 1Schedule completion
Full-year cancellations / full-year schedules, retaining the API definition.
cancel / planOperated volume, year over year
2025 operated volume versus full-year 2024; base2019 is a display alias for the original baseline value.
act / lastYear - 1Contribution to year-over-year net growth
A market's 2025 versus 2024 increase divided by the six-market net increase; not market share.
(act-lastYear) / sum(act-lastYear)Composition of the historical shortfall
Thailand's and the US's combined decline from 2019 divided by declines across all markets below baseline; gains above baseline are not subtracted.
