Key observations from the sample
Shanghai has the most concentrated distribution; Chengdu's leading airport shows the largest share change.
Beijing: Capital accounts for 55.0% of the pair's operated counts. Its August share fell 0.6 percentage points from January.
Shanghai: Pudong accounts for 64.7% of the pair's operated counts. Its August share increased 1.8 percentage points from January.
Chengdu: Tianfu accounts for 63.2% of the pair's operated counts. Its August share fell 2.1 percentage points from January.
Beijing's distribution is closest. Pudong's August share rose 1.8 percentage points versus January; Tianfu's fell 2.1 points. Read shares alongside absolute volume.
Methodology and limitations
Pairs are Capital/Daxing, Pudong/Hongqiao, and Tianfu/Shuangliu. Calculate internal shares from airport counts, not a deduplicated total. Share changes use percentage points, not growth rates.
- Share shifts do not establish policy changes, passenger transfers, or substitution of airport roles.
- A flight between the airports can be counted at both ends; ratios therefore describe the structure of airport counts.
- Analyze flight counts and changes over time only; do not infer route-network roles, international passenger shares, or airport capacity.
- Charts use shortName for airport/airline short names; entity retains the full name. All numerical values are unchanged.
Metric definitions and formulas
Dual-airport counts
Passenger arrival/departure counts for Capital/Daxing, Pudong/Hongqiao, and Tianfu/Shuangliu. Pair totals describe workload distribution only, not deduplicated city flight totals or passenger throughput.
Share within airport pair
An airport's operated count / the city's combined two-airport operated count. Compare proportions only within the same pair.
airportAct / pairActShare change
The airport's August within-pair share minus its January share, multiplied by 100, in percentage points.
