Key observations from the sample
Guangzhou Baiyun leads volume; Kunming Changshui has the largest daily-average increase over June.
Guangzhou Baiyun operated 96,900 flights, averaging 1,563 per summer day, the highest among the ten airports.
Kunming Changshui's daily operated volume rose 31.4% versus June. Daily averages remove differences in month length.
Chengdu Shuangliu had the lowest cancellation share, at 6.7%; Pudong's daily peak was 1.08 times its summer daily average.
Baiyun leads with 96,900 flights; Kunming's daily average rose 31.4% versus June. Shanghai's same-day lows mean period averages should be read alongside daily variability.
Methodology and limitations
Sample airports: Capital, Daxing, Pudong, Hongqiao, Shuangliu, Tianfu, Baiyun, Shenzhen, Kunming, and Xi'an. Add the API's two passenger categories for each airport independently. Queries use type=airport; city-level results are excluded from airport comparisons.
- The ten airports returned complete data; this is not a national ranking. Each uses type=airport and is counted independently.
- All 62 days are complete for each airport. After combining in/out categories, plan=act+cancel each day.
- Cancellation and delay counts follow API definitions; no causal attribution to weather, air traffic control, or airport capacity is made.
- Charts use shortName for airport/airline short names; entity retains the full name. All numerical values are unchanged.
Metric definitions and formulas
Airport operated flights
Add mutually exclusive in/out categories per airport per day, including both arrivals and departures. A flight may appear at more than one airport; do not sum these counts as a deduplicated national total.
Summer versus the preceding period
Summer covers Jul 1–Aug 31, 2026 (62 days); the preceding period is June (30 days). Compare daily operated averages.

Total cancellations / total schedules for the same airport and period; not a near-departure cancellation rate or official punctuality rate.

Group every seven days from July 1; retain the actual count for the last, shorter group. Divide each group's daily average by the airport's summer daily average and multiply by 100.
